MAY 2006 - HOLIDAY COMFORT FOR ALL
A state-of-the-art disability holiday facility has opened in Scotland,
giving complete comfort and relaxation in ALL aspects of life, regardless
of mobility.
The Lin Berwick Trust aims to build houses in the north, south, east and
west of the UK, specialising in providing suitable holiday accommodation
for the severely disabled, and has expanded on its already successful cottage
in Norfolk with the development of Denis Duncan House in Dirleton, East
Lothian. The cottage includes a ground floor disability bedroom with en-suite
bathroom which features a Clos-O-Mat Lima Lifter automatic shower toilet.
Explains Lin Berwick Trust project manager John Toosey, "Lin herself is
blind, has cerebral palsy, and is in a wheelchair, so appreciates the considerations.
She founded the Trust because of her own frustration at finding suitable
holiday accommodation. The Norfolk cottage, opened in 1997, has a Clos-O-Mat
toilet, so it was a logical choice for the new property. The Lima Lifter
is the next generation of Clos-O-Mat so Lin was adamant we installed it
for the extra benefits it brings to holiday-makers using Denis Duncan House."
The Clos-O-Mat Samoa shower toilet can be used as a conventional toilet,
and additionally provides an integral douching and drying facility triggered
by pressure on the standard flush or by an optional pneumatic foot or hand
switch, eliminating the need to use paper and ensuring personal hygiene,
dignity and independence is maintained. An integral water heater and thermostatic
controls provide warm water progressing to cool for douching and a gentle,
warm airflow for drying.
The Lima Lift is ideally suited to multi-user situations, such as Denis
Duncan House, as it additionally features finger-tip control via an infra-red
remote to adjust the height up or down to a maximum seat height adjustment
of 730mm. Drop-down arms can be raised or lowered with the lift. The unit
also provides easy access for compatible shower chair use.
Clos-O-Mat produces two different versions of the Lima Lift- flush-finished
or surface mounted- optimising installation regardless of wall strength
and services ducting and channelling. After installation is complete, Clos-O-Mat
commissions the unit to ensure satisfactory use.
Clos-O-Mat was the UK's first supplier of automatic toilets, fitting the
first one in 1959, and is the biggest selling brand in the market, because
of its product functionality, reliability and durability, and the company's
high levels of after-sales service and support.
The Lin Berwick Trust has received awards from Tourism for All, and the established
Norfolk property has gained the highest grades in categories of mobility,
hearing and vision under the National Accessible Standards. Berwick Cottage
is already let for over 30 weeks of 2006, and advance bookings had reached
similar levels for Denis Duncan House, even before it opened.
