The Copthorne Tara in the heart of Kensington, has taken the Government’s Disability Discrimination Act beyond basic compliance. In addition to providing unisex disabled toilets in the communal areas of the hotel, it was the first hotel in London to provide specially equipped 10 rooms for the disabled. These rooms offer flexibility to accommodate more personal ability requirements, including the installion of Clos-O-Mat automatic shower toilets in two of the rooms.
Andy Byles of Copthorne Tara explains, “Copthorne Hotels aims to ensure everyone who uses or assists in the provision of our services are treated equally and according to their needs, whether they have a mobility difficulty, speech impairment or difficulty, learning or mental health disability, or use a wheelchair, cane, walking frame or crutches. Within the ground floor area we have avoided the inclusion of steps, and where necessary have installed ramps where necessary. We have chosen floor coverings that do not hamper wheelchair manoeuvrability, and we have tailored our adapted bedrooms to specific issues such as hearing or mobility.
“We worked closely with Holiday Care to select the most appropriate equipment.
