Ageing can make performing even the simplest functions more difficult- such
as the flexibility to use the toilet, or hold and manipulate toilet paper.
But there are solutions, which are designed to actually improve hygiene over
conventional WC’s and offer modern design and style.
Total Hygiene Ltd, the UK’s leading manufacturer of specialist toileting solutions, has worked closely with top commercial designer David Goodwin to develop its innovative Clos-O-Mat Palma Vita automatic shower toilet, that functions as a toilet, bidet and drier, all in one compact unit eliminating the need to use toilet paper, to grasp a flush handle, or to seek help of carers….
Robin Tuffley, Total Hygiene Marketing Manager, elaborates, “Figures predict that by 2020 over half the UK population will be over 50, and facing problems of ageing- reduced mobility, dexterity, so you are not alone, but actually in the majority! The British are a proud nation, and it goes against our pride and dignity, and affects us psychologically, to ask for help when toileting. But too often, people aren’t even aware of the options available to help restore that pride, dignity and independence. In Japan, by contrast, it is the ‘norm’ to have an automatic shower toilet: they are displayed in shops as aspirational items and bought with the status that we accord to luxury goods such as plasma TVs!”
The Clos-O-Mat Palma Vita is the first automatic shower toilet developed specifically for people with reduced mobility and flexibility. It is operated by a simple press of the flush pad by hand, elbow or body pressure, or by a remote control hand switch option. The washing and drying process can be triggered without the handle having to remain depressed if required, making it easily useable by all, regardless of manual dexterity. And it can still function as a conventional toilet.
Water for the washing process can be heated as required, saving energy, and is controlled to body temperature with a ‘fail safe’ cut-out. The douching process effectively cleanses and the dryer provides a gentle flow of warm air for up to 3 minutes.
The douche arm retracts and self-cleans using the clean water supply to the Palma. It uses no chemicals, and therefore continues to sanitise the douche throughout the life of the unit, not just until the disinfectant reservoir empties.
Because the Clos-o-Mat Palma is the same size as a conventional WC, it can be easily installed in its place without disruptive building or plumbing work. All that is needed is a suitable electrical connection. And cost of the unit and installation can be covered by Government grant!
