SEPTEMBER 2007 - DOWNSIZING DOESN’T MEAN DOWNGRADING

Some of the pleasures of living in a large home need not be lost when retiring
to a smaller property, simply by commissioning minor alterations.
Total Hygiene, manufacturer of the Clos-o-Mat automatic shower toilet, is
reporting growing numbers of sales to people who are down-sizing, who find
in their new, smaller bathrooms, there is not the space for the separate toilet
and bidet they enjoyed in their former, larger home.
“The Clos-o-Mat Palma Vita basically combines a conventional WC, bidet
and an additional drier in one unit that looks like, and is no bigger than,
a traditional toilet,” explains marketing manager Robin Tuffley. “If
bathroom space is an issue, it provides the ideal solution! It has been developed
in conjunction with leading designer David Goodwin, who styled the Parker pen;
the Palma offers the clean, contemporary lines so in vogue in modern bathrooms.
And with the growing concerns over ‘environmentally friendly’ solutions,
you could argue it offers benefits there too, as you don’t have to use
toilet paper- the douching and drying cleans you instead.”
Robin adds, “We have worked closely with David Goodwin to augment the
Palma with a range of accessories purpose-designed to be easily fitted should
the user’s needs change, such as retractable arm supports, a flush operated
by body pressure, soft seats….”
The Clos-o-Mat Palma is used in the usual way for toileting. A simple push
of the lever triggers the douching, using heated water as required to effectively
cleanse; the unit then gently blows warm air for up to 3 minutes. The process
ceases after the programmed time or when the user stands up.
Clos-o-Mat toilets have been installed in locations as diverse as the Sage Gateshead, the Trafford Centre, and the Copthorne Tara Hotel in London.
