NOVEMBER 2007 - TOILETING SUPPORT
Independence and dignity are being enhanced with new toileting accessories.
Total Hygiene, manufacturer of the Clos-o-Mat automatic shower toilet, has
applied its expertise from almost 30 years’ working with the less able,
and the design skills of leading commercial designer David Goodwin, who created
the styling for Parker pens. The result is the development of special fitments
to ensure optimum compatibility with its new Palma Vita and orthopaedic support
systems, maximising the potential to tailor the toilet to exact client requirements.
The two supports utilise the Palma’s optional integrated fold-down arms
to enable the aid to be easily positioned or removed as required without the
need for any tools, freeing the toilet for regular use. They also make use
of the Palma’s touch sensitive hand switch to enable easy flushing, douching
and drying after toileting.
Once fitted, the supports help ensure the user is properly positioned and
supported when using the toilet, without carer assistance. The Colombia
provides an orthopaedic contoured back. Its choice of hi-back ( for trunk and
head support) and lo-back (for trunk support), and two sizes in each version.
The Chailey support seat combines back and additional side support, and splashguard,
and is available in two sizes- medium (for children aged 10+) and large (for
15+ to adult).
Robin Tuffley, Total Hygiene marketing manager, comments, “The development
of special adaptations to the supports demonstrates our commitment to endeavouring
to meet, as far as viably possible, every permutation of toileting requirement,
to ensure everyone has optimum possibility of toileting with dignity and privacy,
regardless of ability.”
Clos-o-Mat was the first automatic toilet in the market- introduced by Total
Hygiene 25 years ago- and is now the UK’s biggest-selling such unit, being
installed in locations ranging from individual’s homes to hospitals, hotels,
nursing homes, shopping centres, tourist attractions and even on narrowboats.
