MAY 2008 - RECOGNITION OF CUSTOMER CARE

Trafford Centre

Commitment to customer care- particularly the disabled- has been nationally recognised with the winning of two Awards by The Trafford Centre.

One of the first shopping centres in the UK to invest in a disabled adult changing facility, the venue has been rewarded for its efforts by being judged overall winner of the 2008 Loo of the Year Award, gaining not only the National Trophy for ‘best away from home’ toilets but also the National ‘Changing Places’ Trophy for its facilities for the less able and their carers.

Central to achievement of the latter award has been the installation of Total Hygiene’s Clos-O-Mat automatic bidet toilet unit and changing facilities in the Orient restaurant and entertainment section of the Trafford Centre. Coincidentally, the East, particularly Japan, is the world’s biggest user (by both the able and less able) of automatic toilets, which combine toileting, douching and drying in one unit.

Andy Bates, customer services manager at the Centre, commented, “We pride ourselves on listening to our customers It was a lot of research, and listening to those customers, that focussed us on investing in a Clos-O-Mat and additional changing facilities, and user testimony is reinforcing we made the right choice.”

Trafford CentreLoo of the Year Awards Chairman Richard Chisnell adds, “The Trafford Centre has been winning top grade Loo of the Year Awards for many years and continues to improve facilities with dedicated family friendly toilets and older child/ adult changing for those with special needs. Our 21st century society demands and expects a fully inclusive toileting experience and the Trafford Centre is to be congratulated for its forward thinking on this vitally important service.”

The ‘Changing Places’ facilities, installed by Total Hygiene, include a Clos-O-Mat shower toilet, changing table and height adjustable wash basin providing disabled visitors with the same level of independence, privacy and dignity afforded to able-bodied customers to the venue.

The Clos-O-Mat automatic toilet is actuated by conventional push-bar flush, or a pneumatic foot or hand switch. Users toilet as normal, then operate the flush by hand, elbow or body pressure; the flushing triggers integral warm water douching, and drying, eliminating the need to wipe clean and ensuring personal hygiene, dignity and independence is maintained.

Clos-O-Mat was the UK’s first automatic toilet with the first installed in 1959. Today, with over 30,000 units installed in locations as diverse as individual homes through hospitals to tall ships, Clos-O-Mat is the biggest selling brand in the market, because of its product functionality, reliability and durability, ’s high levels of after-sales service and support.
