JUNE 2008 - TOTAL COMMITMENT TO RELIEF...
Clos-o-Mat, the UK’s top manufacturer of toilets for the disabled, is backing
the need to have pleasant places to ‘go’ when out and about...
The company has joined forces with the established Loo of the Year Awards, by becoming an Awards Supporter for the second year running. Promoted by the British Toilet Association, the Awards recognise excellence in public convenience.
Mike Bone, Awards Director, comments, “We have sixty different entry categories this year and are also introducing three new categories of Awards covering family friendly and age friendly facilities as well as Awards for adult/older child changing facilities. We are keen to encourage inclusivity in all areas of ‘away from home’ toilet provision”.
Robin Tuffley, marketing manager at Total Hygiene, which manufactures the Clos-o-Mat toilet, adds, “It is a fundamental human right to be able to toilet with dignity and in privacy, regardless of ability. The continuing, and growing, success of the Loo of the Year Awards shows the increasing awareness of facilities managers to recognise people are more likely to patronise an establishment that provides a pleasant toileting environment. We know from personal experience and comment that the less able will just refuse to patronise places that are not inclusive or accessible on every level. With a growing elderly population and other issues such as obesity which impinge on people’s basic functions, it is becoming increasingly important for establishments to cater for everyone- through to toileting provision.”
Last year the Awards attracted almost 1500 entries, with overall winner being
the Trafford Centre, Manchester, which includes both able and bespoke disabled
changing facilities. The Centre’s facilities include a Clos-O-Mat automatic
bidet toilet unit, changing table and height adjustable wash basin, all supplied
by Clos-o-Mat manufacturer Total Hygiene, in the disabled facilities in the
Orient section of the Trafford Centre. Coincidentally, the East, particularly
Japan, is the world’s biggest user (by both the able and less able) of automatic
toilets, which combine toileting, douching and drying in one unit.
Entries are now open for the 2008 Awards. Anyone can nominate any number of ‘away from home’ loos, via the Awards 24 hour hotline: 01403 258779 or via email: nominations@loo.co.uk. Nominations and entries can also be made online via the Awards website: www.loo.co.uk
Closing date for entries this year is 31st July ; further information is available on the Awards website: www.loo.co.uk
