What's New
AUGUST 2008 - HELPING EMPOWER CHILDREN
Disabled children are being empowered to undertake a most basic function independently
with new developments from Total Hygiene.
As part of the company’s on-going commitment to developing solutions to help everyone- regardless of age or ability- live normal lives, it has added new, child-friendly accessories to its range of toileting aids. The options aim to help disabled children and young people toilet with as little help as possible, and include child-sized Clos-o-Mat toilet seats, and paediatric-proportion support aids.
Elaborates Robin Tuffley, Total Hygiene marketing manager, “It is a basic human right to be able to toilet in private. The Government’s recent decision to abolish means testing for families with disabled children, and now its announcement of an additional £35m for disabled childcare, both make it easier to live as normal a life as possible, but we acknowledge there is a corresponding need for specialist paediatric equipment to effectively fulfil this.”
The Clos-o-Mat Palma automatic bidet toilet- a WC that incorporates integral douching and drying- sits as low as 410mm as standard, facilitating access and use by children and/or from a wheelchair. Looking just like a conventional toilet, it can be used as such, but has the optional ability, by simple hand or body pressing of the flush lever, to cleanse the user via the douche and drier, without the need for wiping with toilet paper.
Further, a new junior soft seat has been developed to ensure the child sits securely and safely over the basin, and in the right position for the douche and drier to function effectively.
Integrated fold-down support arms have been complimented with the addition to the range of the Colombia and Chailey body support systems, to further ensure the young person is properly seated, positioned and supported when using the Clos-o-Mat, or a conventional WC. The Colombia provides an orthopaedic contoured back, and is available in a choice of hi-back (for trunk and head support) and lo-back (for trunk support), and two sizes in each version, whilst the Chailey support seat combines back and additional side support, and splashguard.
Total Hygiene works closely with Occupational Therapists and appropriate care professionals to help advise on the most appropriate toileting solutions for each individual, and offers a free consultation and demonstration facility. Its Clos-o-Mat unit was the first automatic bidet toilet in the market and is now the UK’s biggest-selling such unit, with some 30,000 being installed in locations ranging from individual’s homes to hospitals, hotels, nursing homes, shopping centres, tourist attractions and even on narrowboats.
