DECEMBER 2009 - COST-EFFECTIVELY OPTIMISING COMPLIANCE WITH NEW CODE OF PRACTICE

Helping someone go to the toilet takes up significant time, puts the carer
at risk of infection or injury, AND impinges on people’s feeling of independence
and dignity. Total Hygiene, the UK’s leader in toilet solutions for the elderly
and disabled, has an innovative solution to addressing the issues, which overcomes
those considerations in all caring environments and simultaneously helps compliance
with the new BS8300:2009 WITHOUT any significant capital investment...
An Aerolet toilet lift- whether fixed in ‘dedicated’ en-suites, in the main
communal WC, or a mobile option which can be moved to wherever it is needed-
releases carers from having to physically support someone when going to the
toilet. It simultaneously helps meet elements of BS8300:2009 code of practice
for new build multi-occupancy buildings. Conscious that budgets are always
under pressure, Total Hygiene, UK supplier of the Aerolet toilet lift, is pioneering
a rental system, whereby a unit can be hired from as little as £95/month.
Robin Tuffley, Total Hygiene marketing manager, elaborates, “We all go to
the loo up to 8 times a day. When you multiply that by the number of residents
in a home, it is a huge tract of time for caring staff. There is also the psychological
impact having assistance has on residents in terms of independence, dignity
and self-esteem. Further, BS8300:2009 requires that up to 15% of bedrooms are
accessible, have some kind of hoist or system for improving convenience and
safety and are capable of future adaptation.
“Our Aerolet restores some, if not all, of that independence, dignity and
self-esteem for residents, and helps release carers for other roles, from as
little as £3/day!”
The Aerolet replicates the natural motion of sitting down and standing up,
automatically and smoothly lowering the user over and onto the toilet and then
raising them to standing whilst ensuring their centre of gravity and thus balance
remains stable. It is all controlled by the push of a button via integral arm
supports on the lift. Versions can lift and lower vertically, or tilt for users
with joint flexibility limitation, and either fixed over particular toilets,
or be moved from room to room as required.
Total Hygiene has over 40 years’ experience in delivering personal hygiene
solutions. The company has developed a range of equipment and support services
that today meets every need, including height adjustable basins, changing tables
and the brand-leading, top-selling ‘wash and dry’ toilet, the Clos-o-Mat. Uniquely,
the products are backed up by support from assessment of requirements, design
of an accessible bathroom or washroom to legislative and budgetary requirements,
installation and commissioning of equipment, and lifetime maintenance: Clos-o-Mat
toilets are still in regular daily use 30 years after they were first installed!
