OCTOBER 2011 - CAUDWELL CHILDREN BENEFIT FROM TOTAL HYGIENE

Special children's lives are being changed for the better through a collaboration between charity Caudwell Children and leading specialist equipment provider Total Hygiene.
The two children, a five years old girl and 18 years-old boy, both suffer from cerebral palsy, and needed bespoke toilets to help improve their dignity, independence and standard of living. Their social worker and Occupational Therapist individually knew of Caudwell Children, and applied to the charity for assistance in installing a Clos-o-Mat Palma automatic 'wash and dry' toilet in each of the children's homes.
Caudwell Children not only provided the appropriate funding, but worked closely with Clos-o-Mat manufacturer Total Hygiene to organise every detail of the installation. As a result, the boy has a Clos-o-Mat Palma with integrated fold-down support arms, whilst the little girl has a Clos-o-Mat Palma with a bespoke paediatric body support system. The units enable each to toilet with reduced aid from their carers, improving their independence and quality of life, reducing pressure on their parents and enhancing personal hygiene for everyone in the family.
The only automatic 'wash and dry' toilet manufactured in the UK, developed specifically for the disabled, and to carry WRAS approval enabling legal connection to the water supply, the Clos-o-Mat looks like a conventional WC with added, integrated douche and drier. Simple hand or body pressure on the flush pad flushes the toilet as usual, and, if pressure is continued, triggers the warm-water washing and air drying cycles to effectively cleanse the user without the need to use toilet tissue nor hand:body contact.
Ben Sutcliffe, public relations manager for Caudwell Children, elaborated, "Since its registration in 2000, the Charity has donated over £10m worth of specialist equipment, life-changing treatment and therapy to thousands of special children in desperate need, organising every detail of the donation to alleviate any stress from parents or guardians.
"Total Hygiene helped us further maximise the value of the contribution by providing a discount on the Clos-o-Mats, and organising installation and commissioning of the units to ensure they were working properly and effectively, thus enabling us to further maximise the donations we receive from the public towards helping other special needs children aged 18 and under."
Total Hygiene now has over 40,000 Clos-o-Mats installed in the UK, in locations as diverse as individual homes through shopping centres to a tall ship! It is the only manufacturer of automatic 'wash and dry' toilets to encompass in-house technical, installation and after-sales support, giving users the peace of mind that their Clos-o-Mat will function effectively throughout its life: some of the original Clos-o-Mats installed 30 years ago are still in daily use! Full details of the Clos-o-Mat and Total Hygiene's range of services and equipment are available on this site.
