FEBRUARY 2012 - TOTAL APPROACH DELIVERS SINGLE-SOURCE COMPLIANCE WITH NEW CODE OF PRACTICE
Toilets- the most important priority for station improvement according to Government research- are now the focus of a new Code of Practice introduced by the Department for Transport and Transport Scotland.
The new Accessible Train Station Design for Disabled People Code of Practice pulls together both European and national guidelines. Compliance with the new 'good practice' principles therein is simplified by utilizing expertise at the UK's leading disabled toilet solutions provider, Total Hygiene.
Robin Tuffley, Total Hygiene marketing manager, expands, "Under the new Code of Practice, stations should go beyond providing a conventional accessible Document M type toilet. Now, toilets should not just be accessible to people in wheelchairs, but those who cannot bend, with limited strength, balance and/or vision. In addition, there should be a Changing Places toilet. This compliments the DfT's inclusive mobility guidelines, which already state toilets should be no less available for disabled people.
"Total Hygiene is one of the leading companies in the UK able to supply, install, and commission, from one source, all the equipment necessary to satisfy all those requirements. Designers and specifiers therefore only need deal with one point of contact to resolve all the toileting needs, accelerating the whole design to commissioning process and delivering best value practice."
Founded 50 years ago, Total Hygiene (www.clos-o-mat.com) offers the most comprehensive range of disabled toileting solutions- hence its selection by the Changing Places Consortium as campaign sponsor.
In addition to all the equipment required for a Changing Places toilet, the company manufactures the Clos-o-Mat 'wash and dry' toilet that can function as a conventional WC but also enables anyone with reduced balance, strength or flexibility to toilet without a carer cleaning them afterwards, plus Aerolet toilet lifters to aid people with reduced balance and/or mobility.
