In the late fifties as a result of a chance encounter at the World Fair in Brussels, Robert Willan started a new company now known as Clos-o-Mat (GB) Ltd, which over the years has become the market leader in the provision of automatic wash & dry toilets for the less able.
That ‘chance encounter’ with Hans Maurer the inventor of the original Clos-o-Mat toilet, sparked a friendship between the two business-men that would last a lifetime and transcend a generation.
The beginning of the road
Since the first ‘Model 61’ was sold in the UK, the Clos-o-Mat has evolved many times, however, our objective has remained clear; to create a better life for people with disabilities and a better working environment for those who help them.
Production moved to Manchester
In 1975 Clos-o-Mat GB ceased importing completed toilets and instead started a production and assembly works in Sale, Greater Manchester.
Total Hygiene Created
In 1983 Robert Willan started Total Hygiene Ltd to be the administration and marketing arm of the Clos-o-Mat incursion in the UK.
